Beit Midrash Ahad Ha’am

A home for young public intellectuals and changemakers, connecting deep learning, community, and civic responsibility to cultivate the next generation of Jewish-Israeli leadership.

Israel is living through a crisis of trust, leadership, and shared future. Yet a different reality is emerging: young Israelis are already serving, organizing, and building communities — searching for a Jewish-Israeli language equal to the moment, one that could shift Zionism’s moral and civic course. Beit Midrash Ahad Ha’am gives this spirit a home. Founded in Jerusalem in June 2023, Beit Midrash Ahad Ha’am is a communal, spiritual, and intellectual center where young adults connect Jewish learning, belonging, and civic responsibility — a peer-led ecosystem built to help them create, belong, and grow into long-term leadership.

A Pivotal Shift in Israel’s Trajectory

To change Israel's course, we must rearticulate Israeli Judaism as a living force for moral commitment, universal responsibility, and social repair. By bringing deep Jewish thought into lived civic practice, we renew the connection between tradition, public responsibility, and a shared future. This work aims to shift Israel’s social, political, and moral trajectory toward a society rooted in justice, equality, pluralism, human dignity, and peace.

Introducing the Responsible Class

The Responsible Class is made up of young Israelis committed to at least two of three things: intellectual or spiritual depth, community life, and civic engagement. They are activists, scholars, educators and artists already taking responsibility for Israel’s future. They are defined not by ideology or religion but by seriousness, initiative, and moral drive. Investing in them means investing where Israel’s next leadership is emerging.

Responsibility – Community – Leadership

Our model helps the Responsible Class grow from engagement into leadership. Rather than another top-down program, we create the conditions young leaders need to flourish: recognition, intellectual and spiritual depth, practical tools, real community, mentorship, and opportunities to act. Together, these form a living ecosystem where young adults belong, learn, initiate, and lead. We find those already carrying responsibility, give them a home, and turn their energy into lasting civic, cultural, and Jewish renewal.

A Social Venture Approach

We are building a broad, diverse portfolio of promising young leaders, groups, projects, and experiments with the ability and motivation to shape Israeli society. Our model connects them through a shared network, community and support system, so their efforts can be accelerated by reinforcing one another rather than operating in isolation — raising each initiative’s chances of success and a high long-run social return on investment.

What We’re Already Accomplishing

In three years — amid war and upheaval — Beit Midrash Ahad Ha’am has become a living center of Jewish-Israeli renewal: 78 paying members ages 18–35, 3,600 annual participants, 40 events a year, and dozens of member-led initiatives.

A Home for Spirit and Thought | Serious, peer-led, text-based study in Jewish thought, Gemara, philosophy, literature, and civic ideas — cultivating depth, language, and moral imagination.

A Community of Belonging | A democratic, self-governing 24/7 Jerusalem space alive with daily presence, Shabbat and holiday life, shared responsibility, and real mutual support.

A Launchpad for Initiative | Members don’t just attend — they create, initiating publications, events, acts of care to shape new forms of Jewish and civic creativity that ripple outward.

What We’re Building

Our current challenge is deepening our impact, broadening our programs, showcasing a framework for real change, and building transformative partnerships.

New Leadership Tracks | Advanced pathways for self-motivated participants to grow as public thinkers, creators, educators, activists, and community leaders.

A Living Network | An allied web of changemakers embedded across academia, education, culture, politics, and social action, working together for cumulative impact.

Echo Platform | A public ideas platform that turns voices, texts, and moral imagination into public language — shaping discourse, influencing opinion, and expanding Israel’s horizon of hope.

A Bridge to Young American Jews | A strategic partnership connecting our Responsible Class with values-driven young American Jews — through shared learning, dialogue, and mutual responsibility for a common Jewish, democratic, and hopeful future.

Be Part of the Solution

Young Israelis are mobilizing against a future they refuse to inherit. The danger is not apathy. The danger is that those who care most and are able to act will be left without the infrastructure, community, and opportunities they need to develop, lead, and make an impact. Join us in building a home where their responsibility can become Israel’s renewed hope.
